Oh that mildew. It grows inside your washer. It loves the warm and moist surroundings. It washes into your clothes - especially cottons - like towels. You can smell it when you dry off.

It is a problem for front loading washers. The water level never reaches above the door. How do you clean out the rest of the tub" The quick answer isĀ  - you don't. How many cleaning solutions are sold to try and deal w/ the issue - a bunch. But still they don't really clean above the water line.

Until a way is found to clean the upper portion of the outer tub and the spider/shaft assembly of the inner tub(these items never touch water, they just get splashed during the wash cycle, not much you can do but leave the door open between cycles and let the moisture out. That at the very least, will help keep the mildew down to a low roar.
